Overall, I find the political debates in Massachusetts around whether to build Las Vegas style casinos kind of sad. There are already so many choices for Massachusetts residents who want to gamble. Its a short drive to casinos such as Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods, and the internet is full of gambling options. Maybe it’s a bit tougher for the less tech savvy residents to gamble online, but there are so many ways to mask IPs nowadays, that online gambling is basically open to anyone anywhere in the world.
I would consider any major real estate development to be positive for the Boston metro area. I can understand how building a giant casino in the middle of a rural landscape would disrupt a way of life, but in urban areas of Boston, I expect a casino development such as the one proposed by Wynn Resorts, to be a breath of fresh air.
