I’ve held a gold account at Goldmoney for a while, but since planning a trip to Europe, I decided it might be cool to use the Goldmoney Mastercard denominated in Euros during my trip rather than carry cash or incur foreign exchange fees. My experience is described below. If you’d like to sign up for a Goldmoney account, whic is a gold based bank account that is compliant with Canadian AML rules, click thru to use my affiliate link and we’ll each receive a bonus.
The way the Goldmoney Mastercard works is pretty simple. Just create an account with Goldmoney. Goldmoney is a bank account based on gold instead of fiat currency such as Canadian or US dollars. Next, order a pre-paid Mastercard in the denomination of your choice such as Euros, US dollars, or Canadian dollars. For me, since I already have credit cards in Canadian and US dollars, making payments in Europe during my trip turned out to be a lot easier with a Euro based Mastercard. Once the card is delivered to you, simply load the card using gold from your Goldmoney gold based account. I transferred a few hundred Euros worth to my card, and used my Goldmoney Euro Mastercard during my trip anywhere Mastercard is accepted. The card is enabled with chip and pin technology, so its a secure form of payment to keep in your pocket.
Goldmoney Mastercards don’t offer any loyalty points or rewards. I figure this is how Goldmoney makes profit. But from what I understand, this is the only Euro denominated credit card available to Canadians that complies with our AML laws.
Cool, I should get one of these to use when I travel to the States
