Moneymaker & the Poker Boom

For media pundits and outsiders to the world of poker, it was easy to credit Chris Moneymaker as the reason behind the poker boom. He represented the every-man who was playing poker online, and who could dream of a shot at the big one. His personal story is easy for casual observers to understand, without having to grasp the many intricate aspects that led to the poker boom. But as pointed out in the blog post below, Chris Moneymaker represents the outcome of the poker boom, not its cause.  He may have inspired some to take up the game, but the poker boom would have continued whether he won the 2003 WSOP or not.
